Re: The universal symbol
Sun, July 27, 2008 - 6:08 AMConsidering the oldest scientifically verified example of the Flower of Life is from 400AD, I don't place a whole lot of stock in what the original article says concerning the FoL's origins and the like. It sounds like typical conspiracy theory woo to me. Still, the geometry of the FoL is fascinating, especially considering the multitude of other symbols that can be drawn from it, such as Metatron's Cube.
I'm not very strong on my Egyptian associations, so you'll have to help me out as far as connections to Osiris go, though I understand he was very closely linked with the cycle of birth/death/rebirth. Given the sheer number of circles and their concentric patterns, I could see the circular nature of the BDR cycle being represent by a multitude of interlocking wheels. -

Re: The universal symbol
Mon, July 28, 2008 - 11:08 PMi do not require belief in the
"hoary origins lost in the mists of antiquity...from Adam to Solomon to Jesus"
myth in order to appreciate a symbol, system or formula that is fun and full of discoveries.
This does show up quite a bit as a selling point in the ad campaign that develops around these things...
we are the myth-making monkeys!
the flower of life is such a fun focus for contemplation....but i do not buy the buzz so much.
same with everything. -

Re: The universal symbol
Tue, July 29, 2008 - 3:08 AMI think that's wise. I'm a scientist by trade, so it's hard for me to buy into the usual woo that swirls around most occult circles. I completely agree that the flower of life is interesting as a focus for meditation, as well as from a psychological and mathematical perspective.
