Cycles emulate circles, both exteriorally and interiorally. The perfection of our interior is refuted by the oppossing perfection of our exterior. The inner rules the outer and the outer rules the inner.
We are all simply chasing our own tails, the questions is:
"Do we chase our tails in order to better understand its current and future course?",
Or,
"Do we chase our tails in order to insure the reality of our tail through the elusive chasing of it?"

Re: Cycles and Circles
Sun, July 11, 2004 - 5:29 PMIt is true that we are sometimes chasing our own tail, performing the same actions in similar situations. The path of mastery leads us out of the circle and onto the spiral. we may encounter similar situations, but they are on a grander scale, perhaps, and thus we grow outward, as well as inward.
so here, there are two types of cycles. the cycle of the circle, which seems to go nowhere, and the cycle of the spiral, which is infinately expansive as well as infinately inward.

Re: Cycles and Circles
Sun, July 11, 2004 - 10:10 PMI was just thinking....if you look at a spiral from the top, it could look like a circle if each spiral was the same size (i'm thinking of a springlike spiral). -

Mon, July 12, 2004 - 12:06 AMYep, like DNA.
in the runic system, the 11th and 12 th position are taken up by runes signifying the circular and the straight. Their combination would be a spiral as you describe.

Re: Cycles and Circles
Mon, July 12, 2004 - 10:49 AMOr in the case of the Alchemical Ouroboros - the begining is the end thus donoting a timeless NOW.
The Ouroboros [or alchemical dragon who bites its own tail] is also considered a Pharmakon - that which is both poisonous and a cure. In alchemy the venoms of the dragon are the main ingredient for the elixir of health.
