I joined this tribe a few months ago and its definately been interesting. I've noticed that alot of the topics are regarding the 'study of' Hermetics. I've found some great resources thru this tribe.

So, my question is, has anyone applied the principles they've studied to transmute a situation in their life for growth, healing, etc..?

I have found that Application is very difficult, and I get my lessons primarily 'lip to ear' thru my Teacher, which for me is the best way for me to learn.

I might be hard pressed to *not* recognise Hermetic principles in effect everywherewhen, even (seemingly) unintentionally, but re intentional applications, my academic appreciation of the subject as well as my movements in ritual magic and such have certainly altered my behaviour if nothing else, and for even that effected patterns of energy-information according to (and I would hope, in harmony with) the body and soul of Hermes.

What do you find very difficult about application? Or perhaps, what do you expect (seek) from it, and how does that compare to what you find?

Here's my version of 'living the hermetic life' as was worked out , practiced and later put into a mneumonic poem

'If life should give you lemons squeeze them
      for whjat they're worth.

      In every disappointment a dream
      waits to be given birth.

Pain carries a message when you let go
      you can then go on.

In fear we can open our eyes
      and the nightmare is gone.

      Sorrow is a noble thing
it soeaks of what you hols dear.

Anger is but a twisted love
who is not allowed to give.

For joy and love in everything
is not the nomal way we choose.

      But they are natural,
and with them you will never lose :)

I get stuck in my patterns. And I don't use what I've been taught to fix/alter things going on in my life. It takes my Teacher bringing up something she's taught me for me to be like, 'oh yeah', I should do that. I guess I just want to automatically use the principles I've been taught in situations and I don't do that. I stew for months. So, thats what I mean when I say 'difficult'. Its difficult for me to get out of my regular pattern and use the tools I've been taught to remedy/fix/move forward in a situation.

But, then again, I'm always hard on myself and have been told numerous times by my Teacher that I like to skip steps. Maybe this is just where I am...not an adapt, still a neophyte :) Its probably a foundation thing.

        Hi,
as a thought, you say that "I get stuck in my patterns"
Excellent that you are able to perceive this. Also excellent that you have the personal insight and power to stand aside and observe. Many people are still struggling with that.
We must remember to give ourselves time and patience to grow properly within the context of the great work. This is a science which through ancient also embraces the cutting edge of modern thought. So too we must not rush the process. Certain aspects take time to mature in their way:)
Hermetics can be seen as the art and science of understanding and using symbology to create a language with the inner universe and uniting it with the macrocosm or outer cosmos. Some go on to use Hermetics with other formats to great success. Some flounder at this stage not knowing that Hermetics are a tool or vehicle. But then it is wisdom that tells us to have a destination or goal, and then releasing that desires for the goal....sit back and enjoy the ride (process).
Being stuck in ones 'patterns' is part of being human and conscious. To be released from patterns may be a goal for some, but it will be just as ellusive as reaching nirvana. For as long as you are tied to the chain of cause and effect , you will remain within some pattern. Even if it is a pattern of no pattern :)
A wise teacher once told me, 'Good that you can see it.' So I asked, 'What do I do now?' He replied, 'Nothing, just be aware and issues will resolve themselves through your awareness."
Remember even your dislike of 'patterns' or inability to do something, is in itself the very substance which you can create the Elixer of Immortality from. As the ancients put it, the great secret is hidden within that which others see as refuse. Embrace your garbage!

Funny you should say that, I was speaking about this issue w/ my fellow student (whose got 20+ years on me) and she basically said the same thing as your Teacher and pointed out a previous discussion we had had that went the same way, she id a pattern I was in, and over the last mo. I've actually been naturally changing the pattern.

Thanks for your input, repetition is always essential for my learning :)

    Hi Heather,
I hope this doesn't sound like a canned answer, but the truth of the matter is that you begin to see those situations in life as the principles themselves at work... perhaps another way to look at it is that you learn hermetics as a way of viewing all of those things (growth, healing, etc.).

It is true that you will deal with those things more effectively as you gain insight into hermetics but keep in mind that hermetics is not therapy... which is not to say that it can't be therapeutic.

The simplest way to deal with this question pragmatically to do your spiritual work and live life. Apply things where you can but don't expect results. Just work.

    Take Care,
    Hush

I find that the more I dedicate myself to my spiritual work, the more it becomes integral to my life. In fact, there is no separation between heremetics and life.
